This is our horse Mystery. He was purchased as a show gelding for my granddaughter. We realized he had red eyes when we bought him but, being new into minis, just thought he was unique. To our surprise he has a genetic defect known as ASD. For him this means the front part of his eyes didn't develop in utero. He has fragments of a pupil in each eye. The inside of his eyes have uveal cysts and he is starting to get cataracts. This gelding is turning 4 years old this year (2005). Because of all of this he has very minimal sight and will eventually, over time, become completely blind. I have decided to add this page to our website to educate others on this rare disorder. This disorder is also found in miniature horses. Anterior Segment Dysgenesis or ASD ASD is a genetic eye defect.
